Often that is true.  That's why ones needs patience with minors. (sorry)

I don't speak for most traders, but this one only trades stock that he is willing to hold.  I have done DD on the company, examined the stock’s performance, and find overall it meets the criteria I have to ensure if … and it does sometimes happen … if the market moves against my buy, I can wait with confidence knowing the stock and company are sound.  As a contrarian I don’t worry if the market disagrees, in fact that’s how I make my money.

Speculators on the other hand, of whom I believe you speak, have no such assurances and are very likely to dump at the first sign of a downturn.  This of course is a very risky decision to record a loss out of fear of a greater loss, but then no riskier than buying the latest fad, either.   Life in the fast lane.
