RE:Mr Manson Interview Thought I would post as a response so my own thoughts aren’t mistaken as something from the interview.
Reading between the lines a bit it felt like maybe the Province had not followed the correct order of operations in their assessment process. Maybe stuff presented by the Province should have either been addressed in the first iteration or communicated differently but not okayed in the first iteration and then presented later. I’ve seen this before on EA work I have done and it is frustrating to deal with but better to answer the questions and move forward than make enemies with regulators by fighting back too aggressively.
My initial though when I saw the news was surprise at how they could have dropped the ball since I remember thinking the EIS seemed fairly complete back when I first looked at it. Anyways, I went back to look it over the other evening and its obviously not a half @ssed document. Some comments here make it seem like they forgot to look at Caribou or Fish and its obviously not like that.
I’m not local to the region so maybe someone can fill me in a bit. What was the last big mine permitted on the island? Is it possible the permitting folks are going through a bit of growing pains with a process they are not familiar with?
