It's really nonsensical.....with a 15-20% tip servers already make a killing.....and that's why they have always had a discounted minimum wage.  Serve a table of 4 with a $200 bill and they make $30-40 off just that table......while serving 2 or 3 other tables for that 90 minutes.  It will be interesting if this affects tipping.  Gain $2,45 an hour in wages and lose 50 bucks in tips (if people reduce tips to 10%).  Brilliant ! !  LOL.
BTW I doubt $2.45 a hour is really going to break the bank for any of these restaurants......6-8 wait/bar staff adds up to about $20 an hour more during meal times.....guessing they can absorb this without much issue.....maybe $120 a day on busy days....
End of tipping?

That is an oversimplification of how the industry currently operates. The vast majority of restaurants pool all tips and in many cases the servers are responsible for paying the percentage to the back of house whether or not they recieve any tip at all. One can only hope that this is the first step in acknowledging that Serving can and should be considered a profession. God knows the difference a good or bad server can make to the dining experience.
