This means that if one person out of one hundred voters had switched their vote from Republican to Democratic, the election would have been basically tied. One person out of one hundred! Hardly a resounding defeat.
There was no semblance of sanity under the Trump administration or his bootlicking sycophant followers. He had begun the process of corrupting all the organs of government by appointing any toady who would stoop to flatter him.
Line 5 is a huge issue. It is hard to believe that the Biden administration, with their poll numbers so low, would risk the wrath of voters in the affected states who would see their fuel costs increase. He has enough on his plate at this point. If the share price pulls back a bit I would top up my little stash.
Your math is correct.  What makes this result significant and concerning to Dems is not the margin of victory but that a short 12 months earlier Biden won Virginia by slightly more than 10 percentage points so the victory by the republicans represents a shift in voter sentiment of about 12 percentage points in one year.  This is a huge shift in politics.  In New Jersey, even though Murphy won re-election as a Democrat by a slim majority, Biden won the state by 16 points a year earlier - an even bigger shift in voter sentiment.

If this shift is reflective of a national trend then many "safe" dem seats are no longer safe and about 70 seats out of about 220 Dem seats in the House would be in play in the mid term elections.  This is what has the dems worried and why they might do what I said in my earlier post.  In the Senate this translates into 4-6 senate seats now up for grabs which were non contests a year ago.

Your last point about Biden not wanting to upset voters with a silly decision to stop Line 5 would be a correct assessment in "normal" political times.  My point in my post was that these are not "normal" times and that we may well see suicidal decisions by the zealots in the Democratic party just as we saw Christian zealots die on the cross in the first and second century AD to forward their case.
