RE:RE:RE:Look at all that oilSeismic data can only show structures like faults, anticlines, sinclines, and subsurface layer geometry. It can show only the POTENTIAL for oil accumulations. It cannot explicitly show oil in place. Fault lines can be a place where oil accumulates but only if the fault slips shift a conductive layer of rock to a non conductive layer or cap rock. If there was oil migrating in a carbonate layer and it hit a fault that slipped into another carbonate layer it would still be able to migrate. So yes, the siesmic data does show potential for oil accumulation and will be used to determine the next drilling location with the highest potential for oil accumulation but it can int be confirmed until they actually drill and conduct a draw down test.
