The WOW acquisition announced back at end of June could be the trigger here, but the decision to buy wireless spectrum was announced just a month later could also be a factor. I don't understand the share weakness. Presumably it's related to fears of sustained elevated capex which is going to hit FCF hard. They can obviously afford it though. The dividend growth CAGR 10% at payout ratio of under 50% is nice.

I still don't undertand the path CCA is taking in regards to wireless deployment. WIth the spectrum purchase, are they able to go the MVNO route or do they have to build out physical infrastructure? Are they going to make a move on SJR's FreedomMobile if RCI is forced to divest it? Both? Not much about their wirelss plans in the earnings presentation except to say it's going to be a 'capital efficent model". To me that says MVNO.

They do seem hell-bent on expanding the US cable footprint, but are only the 8th largest US cableco. Can they truly achieve the scale to effectively compete with the big cablecos and telcos there, or are their acquisitions aimed at bulking up ultimately for a sale to a bigger player. ATUS was ready to play ball but the Audets rejected the offer so it seems like they want to go standalone. The big boys are laying fiber fast and furious... big moola involved to upgrade the network.

To me, wireless is the big unkown here. Staying long but the share price trend is a major disappointment,

MONTRAL, July 29, 2021 /CNW Telbec/ - Cogeco Communications Inc. (TSX: CCA) ("Cogeco Communications" or the "Corporation") is pleased to announce that it will invest $295 million to acquire 38 spectrum licences secured in the 3500 MHz band auction. This investment is another step toward Cogeco Communications offering mobile wireless services.

Be incredibly cautious with AT&T incredibly high debt and low growth prospects.

I am unsure of the exact reporting requirements but nothing was said during Rogers conference call nor in analysts notes. Nothing is known about freedom whether RCI has to dispose or not. Quebecor, CCA, 3rd party, new entity or even the Shaw deal not going through due to regulatory approvals.

I believe I had read something on a conference call transcript on MVNO and wireless. It is a hybrid method that CCA wanted where a provider has to be in the progress of building.

On the US side they were interested in growth areas where they could build high-speed from DSL with lessor competition.

I suspect Rogers is interested in control and not a big Canada wide competitor (a hypothetical where AB gets sold CCA would have cash to spend)
