Yeah, check out the history of Zecotek and their big bundle of patents. Because of the number of Chinese hospitals they decided it would be a good thing to set up shop in China.
A little over a year later there was no more Zecotek. Not sure what the CEO (owner of company and patents) ended up with but I know the shareholders ended up with absolutely nothing and all trading was halted so they couldn't even get out for a couple of pennies. Presumably it is a write off for tax purposes,
if it's not in a registered account, but it's amazing how fast it went. It appears to be just another story of failure in a search for treasure in China.
