On July 9, 2020, HEXO announced it had launched medical cannabis products in Israel through a 24-month agreement with leading Israeli medical cannabis company, Breath of Life International Ltd. A first shipment for 493.92 kg of cannabis sativa dehydrated flowers, contributing sales of $1.291 million, was completed on March 24, 2020. During the fiscal year 2021, the Company shipped 3,600 kg of cannabis sativa dehydrated flowers, contributing sales of $9.0 million.
Through Zenabis, the Company has a joint venture (ZenPharm Limited) in Birebbua, Malta, with a local pharmaceutical processing and distribution company for the purpose of providing refined cannabis products to the EU pharmaceutical market. On May 20, 2020, Zenabis successfully received EU GMP approval for the Atholville Facility. On February 1, 2021, ZenPharm Limited received EU GMP certification issued by the Malta Medicines Authority. EU GMP certification is a requirement for export of medicinal cannabis products into most European markets and ensures that patients seeking medicinal cannabis treatments benefit from the highest quality and safety standards in manufacturing processes. Regular recurring commercial shipments to ZenPharm Limited are expected to begin in 2022 after receipt of all licensing and regulatory approvals of ZenPharm Limited by the Malta Medicines Authority.
