Not a big deal for Apple. Most of their connection cables are USB C at one end, and their own proprietary connection types at the other end. Lightning, Thunderbolt, and others. No need for them to change anything. same goes for other types of phones. Just one end of the cable is USB-C. They can till make the other end whatever they want it to be
