Baytex Energy Corp. is a Canada-based energy company. The Company is engaged in the acquisition, development and production of crude oil and natural gas in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and in the Eagle Ford in the United States. Its crude oil and natural gas operations are organized into three main operating areas: Light Oil USA (Eagle Ford), Light Oil Canada (Pembina Duvernay / Viking) and Heavy Oil Canada (Peace River / Peavine / Lloydminster). Its Eagle Ford assets are located in the core of the liquids-rich Eagle Ford shale in South Texas. The Eagle Ford shale covers approximately 269,000 gross acres of crude oil operations. Its Viking assets are located in the Dodsland area in southwest Saskatchewan and in the Esther area of southeastern Alberta. It also holds 100% working interest land position in the East Duvernay resource play in central Alberta.

RE:RE:RE:RE:Interesting Close For BteTVE, HWX, BTE all had final 10 minute spikes in volume.  I want to say it's because they are all big clearwater plays, but more likely this relates to index funds buying for Dec 1 due to these names being added to various indexes in December.  

Index funds get punished for tracking error, so they like to have their full weighted amount right from day one to avoid this tracking error.

Some of the names didn't see a spike in price suggesting that these were preordained deals with sellers to the index funds.  BTE must not have had enough big sellers so some funds had to grab shares in the open market which spiked the price - a positive sign for BTE.  Less people interested in selling is a good thing.
