Autofocus: Thanks for the intelligent response. I disagree with your thinking but I respect you for voicing it in an intelligent and respectful way. As you mentioned, failing to increase the dividend is not an option for ENB other than a disaster scenario and ENB doesn't play the kind of games that would land them in trouble. Paying down the debt is a win for the balance sheet while cancelling shares only sends one signal to the street which is "we don't know what else to do so we are just following the crowd". The only reasonable explanation for pandering to the street by providing a comfortable exit strategy for those being pressured by ESG investors is that ENB has something big in the works (could take months or years) whereby ENB will eventually need to go back to the street for funding and the street has a very long memory. Tickertwit: I'm glad you brought up the share "creep" at ENB as it is relevant because the NCIB will only act to negate the options. I think most retail investors would rather have the extra cash.
SargeX: I was confused about you. Initially, I thought you were an actual player (big hitter as opposed to a "playa") based upon your posts. I just couldn't understand why you would brag about your portfolio when people that have real money would never do that other than with trusted friends who treat the gamesmanship as harmless sport . Then I thought you were just one of the young fools pretending you were something that you were not. With your post today, I realize that you are an old guy who is proud of the nest egg that you put together for your family. Now your posts make sense. Once again, I apologize for giving you a hard time as I thought you were pretending to be something else, which really pissses me off as I grew up with a sibbling who was a pathological liar and I know the damage that deception can create.
