Maybe they have covenants against doing that...but seems like a no brainer.
This is an interesting situation. What would provide better value to shareholders, buying back stock or paying down its debt?
If management truly believes the fair price is much higher, say $3/share, then they would be better off doing a buy-back. You would be exchanging $2.50 for a loonie at current price $1.20.
