there is, however, an interesting disconnect in the last week between the price of copper and the action of copper stocks in general. In fact, day to day, there is a curious tension that the actual copper stocks are moving in the opposite direction to copper price movement.
what I've noticed in the past is that this dichotomy of sentiment (pessimism in stocks with optimism in the underlying commodity, or vice versa) is always related to a change in fundamentals which stockholders CURRENTLY consider highly relevant, but the commodity market does not.
At some point in the near future, either side will acquiesce to the sentiment of the other, and there will be a large movement in either stock prices or the commodity price (perhaps both) as the dichotomy is resolved.
