RE:Brandon; You Don’t Really Want to Fuc* with Putin

RE:Brandon; You Don’t Really Want to Fuc* with PutinRight-wingers continue to try to hang the Afghanistan albatross around Joe Biden’s neck when the conditions on the ground that the Biden administration had to deal with were created during the last two years of Trump mismanagement and indifference.

First of all what are we talking about?  We are discussing the withdraw of tens of thousands of American and allied forces in the face of an armed enemy, over 120,000 individuals in all.   A withdraw, a retreat, an evacuation – call it what you will, whatever name you give or however one wishes to describe what happened it wasn’t as simple as boarding a commuter airline in Des Moines.  The point being is how did our withdraw from Kabul compare, not with commuter flight from a municipal airport in the U.S., but rather with other historical examples.

I would compare the evacuation of Kabul with the miracle of Dunkirk in terms of number of personnel retrieved.  As far as Afghanistan is concerned the British evacuation from the same city in 1842 resulted in the loss of the whole army of 16,000 soldiers along with many camp followers.

The USMC retreat (advance to the rear) from the Chosin Reservoir in Korea resulted in as estimated 18,000 casualties included about 2,500 killed in action, 5,000 wounded.

Napoleon’s retreat from Moscow resulted the complete destruction of the Grande Armee of half a million men, with Hitler’s retreat resulting in millions of casualties.

Finding another example like Rome’s weeping tears of joy as Hannibal sailed peacefully back to North Africa is not possible, but we came close.  We regret the loss on “Aug 26, 2021 of 13 U.S. service members killed and 18 wounded after a suicide bomber detonated an explosive ...”.  We owe them our gratitude and highest honor for giving this nation their ultimate sacrifice in service to this nation.

When one fully considers what took place during the previous administration, how the conditions for failure were either intentionally created, or were permitted to exist through incompetence and indifference, and when history is recorded and allowed to account all the many mistakes and missteps taken over the last twenty years in that region, whatever blame Joe Biden receives for The Retreat from Afghanistan will be found to be unfair and unwarranted.
