1. The tailings are so fine that if you don't turn them over only the few top inches exposed to air will react with carbon
2. Sometimes. Depends on composition. I don't know here.
3. Olivine is in the overburden rock, so yes it can react to carbon. Whether it will be economical to grind it to augment its surface exposure to air will depend on the price of carbon credits. With the present trajectory of those prices, by the time Crawford is being mined, I believe so.
4. Normally you build ''tailings pounds'', a series of dykes into which you dump the tailings to keep them away from watercourses etc. Here we will have to see what they come up with to maximize their exposure to carbon ladden air.
