RE:RE:RE:Patent sale and OnwardMobility phone somehow related.....Hedge, from personal viewpoint, I wouldn't feel bad for the main streets of Wall and Bay, the Hedge suits, scumbag FUD writers, lobbyists, politicos and all other manner of unethical creepos were they to wake up with a flesh eating virus, much less the tech' kind. Alright, maybe off with their flesh is a bit extreme. :) From a business ethics point of view, one of the things I admire most about Chen is his refusal to get in the mud. The poor guy (make that rich) has made an offhand comment or two to the goon from RBC, but generally plays it straight.
Let's suppose, though, that Chen, Watsa, BofD's and others in brain trust were open to dirtballing, it would be a very dangerous undertaking. One word comes to mind and that is blackmail from within.
My take on Chen is he's the real deal. The type of man described in Kipling's 'IF.' At most, a smirk or killing the enemy/frenemy with kindness feller. The world of tech may be more corrupt than any business that's come before it. Certainly as much or not more on the line. Many thought BlackBerry was down for the count and figured not enough resources to carry out IP infringement suits. They got away with it long enough and time to pay the piper.
Chen knows the hand he's holding and knew it before all cards were dealt. It's 'when' and no longer 'if' for BlackBerry. University kids will be studying the John Chen led BlackBerry turnaround long after the last of us are gone. Us folks here were able to connect dots and persevere. It's coming to all those who wait for it.
