Canada to lend Ukraine up to $120-million to counter ‘econom Canada will lend Ukraine up to $120-million as Kyiv readies for possible war with Russia, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Friday.
A Russian military buildup on its border with Ukraine – as many as 100,000 troops – has raised fears of an invasion by Moscow, which the White House has warned could come “at any point.”
Mr. Trudeau said the money will help Ukraine weather efforts by Moscow to damage its neighbour through “economic destabilization.”
The Canadian Prime Minister said the loan doesn’t preclude giving Ukraine defensive military gear later.
Canada has 200 soldiers in Ukraine training Ukrainian troops in such skills as sniper shooting and artillery.
The Prime Minister declined to rule out sending more soldiers in the future.
