RE:Inflation - Sort of OT"Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. - Matthew 6:1-4

One of the reasons for this is political (inflation causes opinion pollls to go against the sitting Government) but the other reason is that Governments have social programs whose payout increases are based on the published "official" inflation numbers and so a lower inflation numbers means that Governments spend less where it is actually most needed.
With this as background, those who receive Government cheques for OAS etc will get a "raise" of 2.4% while the pubiished inflation numbers are 4% - but as I said above....the actual inflation number is a lot higher.
Those who are poor and less fortunate are facing significant erosion of their real (inflation adjusted) incomes and this poses tremendous hardship on them just in terms of basic things like housing and putting food on the table. In turn this places increasing demands on local food banks and homeless shelters.
I am donating $500 to the local Food Bank. Those of you here who are OK in terms of dealing with inflation due to your financial situation, I encourage you to make a donation to an organization helping those less fortunate than you and post your gift on this on this Board.
