Baytex Energy Corp. is a Canada-based energy company. The Company is engaged in the acquisition, development and production of crude oil and natural gas in the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin and in the Eagle Ford in the United States. Its crude oil and natural gas operations are organized into three main operating areas: Light Oil USA (Eagle Ford), Light Oil Canada (Pembina Duvernay / Viking) and Heavy Oil Canada (Peace River / Peavine / Lloydminster). Its Eagle Ford assets are located in the core of the liquids-rich Eagle Ford shale in South Texas. The Eagle Ford shale covers approximately 269,000 gross acres of crude oil operations. Its Viking assets are located in the Dodsland area in southwest Saskatchewan and in the Esther area of southeastern Alberta. It also holds 100% working interest land position in the East Duvernay resource play in central Alberta.

Short position history of BTE

The short position of BTE has been in the range of about 20 to 26 million over the period of one year. BTE has a 52 week low of $.75 and a high of $4.75, it is trading at $4.55. The financial outlook for the company has substantially improved and is going to become a cash cow at current prices. Still, the short position is not going down. In December about 4 million shorts were added. The short position is in the upper range of one year does not make sense. This company has some old hedges at lower prices but unhedged production would be getting big netbacks.

This stock has massive volume last week it had a range of 8 to 15 million daily volume From Jan one till today about 211.7m shares have traded. There seems to be too much HFT trading going on with this stock. Where too many institutions are trading it for small spreads and some of the shorts can be trading shorts.

Even with WTI creating new highs it is not causing any short squeeze.
