RE:RE:RE:RE:Equalization

RE:RE:RE:RE:EqualizationThe "Equalization" program is a federal program, with 5 provinces in 2021-2022 getting a benefit: Manitoba, PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Quebec. The money is paid by the federal government from General Revenue with money from various sources including federal income taxes. If your income is higher on average, like in Alberta, you pay a little more. Hydro Quebec is one of the largest employers in Quebec with, I think, over 20,000 well paid employees. It is also, I think, the largest energy producer in North America, with net income in 2020 of $2.3 billion, of which about 1/4 come from foreign sales of power. Newfoundland also has a big hydro power development at Muskrat Falls in Labrador, which, when the kinks are worked out, should provide relatively clean power for decades. I am long PPL and some oil and gas companies and have no big ax to grind against anybody.
