However, much of the excitement for me re: TLT's form of ACT arises not so much from the PDT, but from the metallic compound that makes it all happen. The fact that this compound has the ability to be cytotoxic/virucidal in the absence of light/irradiation bodes well for the future of this ACT in its many forms (stand-alone, combo, +/- PDT, etc.).
Imo, it is only a matter of time that traditional PDT will be augmented &/or replaced in many instances (I.e. in the treatment of large or deep-seated solid tumors) by other more versatile forms of compound activation/irradiation. One example of this that shows significant promise preclinically is in the use of nanoscintillation that does not require the need for external PDT or external irradiation of any kind. Such an approach also exploits more novel/effective compound delivery platforms that can potentially enhance not only cytotoxicity, but also the immune response. Time will tell, but it's coming soon imo. JMO. Good luck....
