It might be that they were happy to keep him but only if he moved to Texas. I know lots of people here in Canada who wouldn't move to Texas (or even the US) for anything. Maybe he has kids in school here. Or maybe he just likes Toronto.
The Blackberry IP sale, on one hand, is good because it establishes a useful benchmark / comparison for patent portfolio values. Sort of like if you're trying to sell your house and the guy next door sells his first.
On the other hand, RBC thought the patents were worth $1 billion and they only got $600 million. Might be a bit of an apples to oranges thing because Blackberry kept some of the IP for itself. Still, $600 million looks like a bit of a disappointment.
