First of all. I NEVER said the compensation would be 20B. I said that "fair value" is 20B.
And I have absolutely no hope of that being paid from the government of Quebec. But if it ends up in a court, then that is the number I will be hoping for. Do you know why? Because that is the "fair value" og their licences!
135m is a joke! The company would never agree to that. I would push hard to get this to court because the clean gas project from Questerre is actually viable and if the government want to stop it for political reasons then they will have to pay for it. The company have proven social acceptance, and new technology that can eradicate any potensial emissions.
For me the most interesting thing is not the size of the compensation. It has to be in the billions to even be considered! The interesting thing is whether Quebec wants to signalize investor protection or not. Low balling it will have severe circumstances and any investor would think three times about putting any severe money on the table for investing in a project in Quebec.
And the current share price only reflect the low ball offer you mention. Nothing more. So there is potentially huge upsides here. The government of Quebec have a internal 2-5 cad billion number. There are 10 license holders in Quebec. Questerre is one of the biggest ones. I can easily see the higher than the 200-500 mill cad area, more like 300-700 mill cad. But even that would be a disappointing sum in my eyes.
