Use for electricity
Use for electricity The idea is that offshore wind can power a hydrometallurgical refinery.
Also Prince Rupert has a port to accept batteries from around the world. The shipper would pay the costs gained from an environmental recycling surcharge on new batteries. Large marine batteries also would fit the bill.
Hydrometallurgical refinery runs on wind/electrolysis. Why not connect a green hydrogen, ammonia and methanol facility.
The leftover scrap stuff could be shredded and sent to a steel mill? Send it to Avraz.
Others are beginning to tap the potential. From an article. Morocco:
Glencore and Managem’s CTT hydrometallurgical refinery aims to enter into a five-year tolling agreement for roughly 1,200 tonnes of recycled cobalt per year, as well as nickel hydroxide and lithium carbonate.
The CTT hydrometallurgical refinery is 90% powered by wind energy.
