Many cancers are already treated over the long term as a chronic disease, like many prostate cancers wher patients can survive 15-25 years post diagnostic, without ever curing it, but by being able to stop progression with regular treatments. That being said, it is clear that there is a lot to do for the more aggressive cancers. Also, I think it will be hard to cure more advanced cancers with a single therapy, as these advanced cancers are genetically heterogenous and involves cancerous stem cells.
