RE:SNC view on Energy and Small Nuclear Reactors Gabriel, thank you for all the excellent informative posts!
Glad to see that SNC-Atkins are involved in the Small Reactor design....most of these SMR's are only concepts around the world...but the future is bright for these light water reactors.. I live in Whitby Ontario smack in between both Pickering and Darlington reactors. A few of my neighbours are big wigs at OPG...so we talk....they are pro CANDU as this is the proven Canadian backbone of Ontario power and will be for decades to come although not so pleased that OPG recently decided to go with a new GE-Hitachi SMR design for their Darlington addition...controversial among folks here choosing an American company over a couple of Canadian options including CANDU... there are doubters at OPG to go this route..Less power and different fuel as well, not the same enriched uranium used by CANDU so I think we will be reliant in this aspect. I believe I read somewhere that the waste is hotter and more radioactive with the GE SMR light water versus heavy water CANDU..a few positives I guess re: quicker build and less cement!!
As long as SNC is making money building and refurbishing CANDU reactors and making money with the SMR design etc..and stays focused on their green agenda in all aspects of their engineering services work...it's all good for us and the world!!! Cheers, Rookie
