If they don't perform in the near future, you are correct, they could very well become a takeover target.

There's both opportunity and risk for a (potential) investor now:
  • The opportunity is you buy or double down for peanuts and could make a reasonable to sizeable return if they're bought out.
  • The risk is they end up in bankruptcy / insolvency before they find a white knight and your shares are worthless.
Everyone's guess is as good as mine.
