Technically the process is patent protected while the patent is pending.  I haven't been able to find the application to see the status on the USPTO site, but maybe it was filed in Canada...

The patent pending could take a lot of time, especially if someone is challenging the IP behind it.  I would have to think that PM lawyers are all over it, especially since it is their previous employees behind it.  I'm not saying that there is any issue, but I would think PM attorneys could help draw out the process.

I do agree with you on all of your other points, the lack of any 'big deal' has been disppointing.  I would have thought that if 7-11 in NV/AZ area was lighting the world on fire, that would have been expanded pretty quickly.  Just my 2 cents.
