It is simply fear mongering as usual on the part of the United States of America. They are trying to ferment discord in effort to stop Nordstream 2 which will replace U.S. gas exports to Europe.
Europe is not falling for U.S. fear campaign.
It was the U.S. that overthrew the Ukraine democratically elected president because the Ukraine was getting close to Russia.
Most of the population in the Donbas are Russian and most of the population in the Crimea are Russian.
