The Russian buildup is to achive 2 things. Force the implementation of Minsk agreements and destabilize NATO. It has already achived that. NATO will break up and this is when it started. Marcon wants and EU based alliance, and Germany and France want to be rid of the UK and US. France will provide the Nuclear deterrent. If Ukraine attacks Donbas Russia will defend it. That is pretty much the only scenario where this gets hot.
