Woods set to deliver major address at opening of energy conf

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Exxon Mobil Corporation, Darren Woods, will deliver the feature address today at the opening of the International Energy Conference and Exhibition at the Guyana Marriott Hotel in Georgetown.

OilNOW sat down with Woods for an exclusive interview on the eve of the conference where he addressed several key aspects of Exxon’s operations and activities in the new oil producing South American country.

The CEO will touch on some major focal points in his address which is expected to last for around 20 minutes.

OilNOW understands this will be centered around the company’s hugely successful operations in Guyana where it has made over 20 significant discoveries amounting to more than 10 billion barrels of oil equivalent resources.

Woods credits this unprecedented success to a strong, supportive partnership among Stabroek Block co-venturers Hess and CNOOC, the government and people of Guyana and the local private sector. He will touch on the company’s ongoing support for local content development, the safety of Exxon’s operations, environmental protection, among other key areas.

In his interview with OilNOW, Woods said despite the volatile nature of the oil and gas market, Exxon expects the Guyana success story to continue in the coming years.

“Our expectation is, irrespective of where demand goes, irrespective of where the price moves within what I would call the historical ranges, that Guyana will be a successful development, as with many of the things that we are working on around the world,” he stated.

The conference is expected to attract over 500 attendees and 150 exhibitors over the course of this week, before wrapping up on Friday.
