Participants active in the ferro-alloys market are looking to clear duty-unpaid Rotterdam material originating from Russia as soon as possible, with some of them avoiding material from the country altogether ahead of possible sanctions.
The European Union will block Russia’s access to critical technology and other markets as punishment for Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine, European President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday February 24. The new penalties will be presented on Thursday evening at an emergency summit of EU leaders. The potential sanctions are creating nervousness in European warehouses, market sources said. “Russian companies that are offering me duty-unpaid ferro-titanium right now, even if it's in Rotterdam, I'm not going to take it… I will only take it if it is duty paid,” a trader said. “If you have to declare goods to customs, it can take two.
