RE:RE:And nowMore excepts from the SA article.. ;-) "Jonathan Evans, President and CEO of Lithium Americas, stated during a Senate testimony that he expects the output of Thacker Pass to “produce enough domestically sourced lithium chemicals to encourage the development of large-scale cathode, battery and end-user manufacturing in the U.S.” With China responsible for two thirds of the world’s cathode supply, the US producing less than one percent, a rise in domestic cathode production is imperative and Thacker Pass could aid in this change. This is an advantage that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Washington. A December press release from the White House went so far as to single out Thacker Pass as a major source of domestic lithium production. This identification was important for two major reasons. The first of which is rather surface-level, being this indicates a high likelihood of Thacker Pass receiving some of the $7 billion in federal funding to “accelerate innovations and facilities across the battery supply chain from battery materials refining, processing and manufacturing to battery manufacturing, including components, to battery recycling and reuse.” A more recent White House press release also set aside $3 billion for “refining battery materials such as lithium, cobalt, nickel, and graphite, and battery recycling facilities”. Because Thacker Pass plans to refine lithium on-site, it could also be open to this credit as well."
