Taking a break from trashing, PF...?

Xi won't give up his presidency until he's secured his legacy of regaining Taiwan. He'll be watching how Ukraine plays out before making his move, but a major aggressive move is going to happen I think.

China are playing this shrewdly though. They're currently condemning any invasion against a 'sovereign nation' whilst continuing to trade with Russia. And remember that Taiwan has not fully achieved the status of sovereign, so Xi is leaving the door open to argue that Taiwan is different.

For the West, the financial implications are huge, so important is Taiwan to the world for manufacturing chips and other things. (Interesting side-fact; not many people know that 90% of all bicycles globally are made in Taiwan).

BUT whereas Russia's invasion of Ukraine signals that they won't stop there and implies an ever greater threat to Europe; I think the West could be persuaded that China invading Taiwan WOULD stop there with no further threats to follow.

With that, I wouldn't be surprised if - right now - the West are seeking a secret deal with China; China intervenes now to end Russia's aggression in Ukraine, and in return the West will promise to do no more than the obligatory hand-wringing when it's China's turn to take back Taiwan.

But Taiwan are very capable at defending themselves, as Ukraine is, so it won't be pretty.

However this all plays out, global uncertainty will continue to ratchet up for at least a year or three or more. It can't not. And gold will easily outperform cryptos and other asset classes in that scenario.

And once gold really starts to move, the junior miners and explorers - which have fallen way behind gold over the last 10 years - will see leveraged returns as the relationship between POG and JDXG reverts to its long term mean.

Fury's story will play perfectly against that backdrop. And this may or may not be of some solace for those on this board, whilst we all watch helplessly from the sidelines as the world turns to sh1t.
