RE:Lithium/Vanadium Hybrids

RE:Lithium/Vanadium HybridsIsland, great post. The article describes how the hybrid 50Mw/50 MWh lithium-ion and the 2MW/5MWh vanadium VRFB battery coordinate electrical storage. the Vandium battery will be the first line of service ("front ending") which operates on initial energy storage until fully utilized, and then beyond hands over to the Lithium battery for greater storage capability. The key reason is to take advantage of the durability of Vanadium, with no degradation and long and multiple cycling life, and protecting the Lithium storage, only used when needed, which has none of those same characteristics and thereby increasing the lifespan of the Lithium battery. Very cleaver! It seems that this concept should open up multiple applications for LCE, with Vanadium and Lithium mutual benefiting one another, rather than in competition with one another.
