RE:Planning for future The ministry spokesperson said the BC Hydro plan has contingencies if the decarbonization of B.C. leads to an accelerated demand for electricity. They include buying market energy from outside B.C., upgrading BC Hydro facilities and building new infrastructure to harness energy from wind, solar and biofuels.
CleanBC says: By 2030 CleanBC policies will require an additional 4000MW of electricity.
This demand is above the projected BC Hydro demand growth.
It is equivalent to an 8% increase, roughly the same demand as the City of Vancouver.
Meeting our 2040-2050 targets will require substantial additional volumes of new clean electricity.
