RE:difference between NCMGF and NCMGY?

RE:difference between NCMGF and NCMGY?I assume you are a US resident and are looking at the two US  OTC symbols for Newcrest as you noted..
NCMGY is the Newcrest 'sponsored' ADR managed for them by BNY Mellon , representing 1 share of Newcrest stock.
NCMGF is the OTC 'foreign' (hence the symbol ending in F)  trade also representing 1 share of Newcrest stock.

If you owned PVG and elected stock, I am not sure how these will show up in your brokerage account.Maybe 'F'..  The ADR is much more active vs the OTC 'f' trading and more liquid if you want to buy/sell.

Newcrest is Australian as you probably know and maintains primary trading in AUS and Canada under NCM.
It also has two sponsored ADRs in the US (NCMGY) and Germany (symbol NMA) ..

all these translate into 1 share of Newcrest.  The whole point of all these listings being they want world investors to participate on active exchanges.

I too was a US holder of both Newcrest and PVG..  When the merger was announced, I sold PVG because I had a full position in Newcrest and did not want more (I am retired/balance my risk w allocations)..

The main difference again is ADR is more liquid to trade or if you wanted to sell.  ALSO for managing it's ADR, BNY Mellon gets a fee on the dividends and annual ADR fee out of your dividends declared.  Since Newcrest does pay and expects to pay divs in the future, this fee can whack some of your dividend before you receive it!!  The latest div was 0.075US and they take almost a penny of this so your net is about 0.066centsUS.

BNY Mellon gets a pretty big cut on your div imo.  Here is a link to the result on the BNY Mellon DR site for ADRs. publicSiteProxyExport.jsp (adrbnymellon.com)

SO bottom line for US folks-- the ADRs are more liquid with the tradeoff you give BNY a fee off your divs to handle the ADR.  The 'F' shares are not as liquid but no fee.

I plan on being a long term investor in Newcrest, it is currently my largest position.. long live mines, low cost, great diversification etc.  I am also long related Newcrest 32%  LUG.TO (Lundin Gold).. the incredible property in Equador which has massive unexplored potential.

Hope this helps, it is certainly confusing--all these symbols and exchages!!   CA folks are lucky to have a listing on the TSX.. Newcrest in my opinion has big plans for B.C. and will be the dominant miner there w these plans.    Bea
