AlterationThe following is taken from a report by W.G. Powell and S.L. Jackson, 1994, Ontario Geological Survey, Open File Report 5885).
"There is no persistent or extensive thermal aureole associated with the Round Lake Batholith (2605 Ma). Greenshist facies metabasites, including clinopyroxene bearing metagabbros and komatiites occur within 1 kilometre of the batholith margin. In marked contrast, the syenitic Otto Stock (2544 Ma) has a thermal aureole which extends 10 kilometres from the pluton".
"The presence of such low-grade rocks adjacent to the Round Lake Batholith , together with structural information, supports the interpretation that the batholith was emplaced at its current level as a solid state diapir"
Before I go any further (because I'm not an expert in metamorphism), my take on the above is that since there is no thermal aureole, or very little, around the Round Lake Batholith, does that mean there was probably no hydrothermal fluids, or not much, escaping from the RLB. If that was the case, then where did the gold on the Link Catharine property come from? Where is the source? Is there another source nearby, like a syenite stock?
