to increase hydropower, we must build some new rivers, and mountains for them to flow from.
nuclear is political kryptonite.
fossil fuels will be with us for a long time.
eventually, people will accept nuclear. ...but not soon. (cold fusion?)
Turbines also don't generate when wind speed is too high, it destroys the unit. Frosty, fog in cold temps sticking to blades, extreme cold also wreak havoc on turbines. Nuclear is the only viable option for "alternative" energy.
