RE:TSE index variation since the beginning of 2022You sure can go on about this. You're assuming a person is just buying an index fund on the TSX. If a person is invested in nice safe dividend income/growth stocks, then they would be doing better (not that total returns really matter to me & my wife. It's all about the income and never haivng to sell anything).
Anyway, we're up +6.12% YTD and haven't had to do all the trading, work, and worrying you're doing.
Another interesting tidbit is that we have an acount for our grandkids with a smallish amount ($40K) so I just put them in mostly VDY which has a YTD total return of 11.29%. (and I actually care about total return for them as each grandkid gets their share wjen they graduate high school).
