While there are salient differences between the  three post-Soviet nations of Ukraine, Belarus and Russia, they have much in common when it comes to their culture and history, which goes back to Kyivan (Kievan) Rus′, the medieval East Slavic state based in the capital of present-day Ukraine.
These are Slavic Christians and have been so for centuries.
