RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:When are folks cutting SDE back?// Fauxtomato check for messWow did I sell too early. I think you're right: it's PTSD from having seen gains vaporized in previous meltdowns.
The Energy Investing board on IV is almost like a contest to see who has the highest cash levels, and it's been like that for most of this year. That has me cautious on being too far out over my skis: I was at my brokerage credit limit heading into this year and now have a fair bit of breathing room. SDE is still my largest holding but it's half of what it was (but strangely, about the same value as the start of the year, guess that's what happens when it's up ~90% YTD).
Part of me feels like it's irresponsible to NOT hold piles of energy equities, just to hedge the crazy prices coming in the rest of my life. But I also know feeling this invincible is a really bad sign.
I bought a few other energy equities on the drops earlier in the week: KEL, BNE, PIPE, and a lot of VET. But SDE still screens attractive on nearly every metric. Their guidance for the year, both financial and operational should increase if the wells in the Montney perform. Debt could be gone this year. Perhaps the biggest single risk now is another acquisition.
