Build Own Operate (BOO) Update & Recap
Build Own Operate (BOO) Update & Recap - Last week, the municipal council of Cowansville gave its support to a request for authorization from (CPTAQ) to build a biomethanization system.
- This is the project of Bhler Biogaz, which was initially supposed to materialize in Bromont last spring.
- The project, estimated at $28 million, was expected to divert 45,000 tons of organic matter from landfill annually
- “Cowansville has an extraordinary site and it is very well managed,” commented David Bhler, president of the company. As there are already landfill and composting activities on the site, it would be a logical next step to install a biomethanation system there. »
- By the end of 2023, when the project should start, the natural gas will be captured by the private partner and sent to the nergir network.
- Waga Energy undertakes to finance the work to connect the site to the network of the state company.
- This would offer an advantage to Bhler Biogaz, which could then use part of the infrastructure in the development of its project.

RECAP Feb 2020, - Xebec and Bhler signed an agreement to develop an integrated facility to process various organic wastes for the production of RNG and biofertilizer.
- Located in Qubec, this facility will process over 45,000 metric tons of organic waste per year through an anaerobic digestion process.
- The project will sell its RNG under a 20-year off-take agreement at a fixed rate per gigajoule (GJ), and the biofertilizer produced will be sold and distributed to farmers through a major bio-solid management partner.
- The project’s capital expenditures of approximately 28 million.
June 2020, - Xebec & FTQ announce the creation of GNR Qubec Capital investment fund.
- Initial capitalization of 20 million
- Aims to increase RNG production in Qubec.
- Partners, particularly from the agricultural and municipal sectors, will have access to the capital and expertise needed to develop and operate efficient facilities to treat organic waste.
- The creation of a fund of this type for RNG projects is a first in Qubec.
- Xebec and FTQ initiative could fund 12 to 15 renewable natural gas projects in Qubec with an aggregate investment of $400 million over the next decade.
- GNR Qubec Capital overseen by a Board of Directors nominated by Xebec and the FTQ manage the partnership.
Jim Said:Mar 17, 2022 - On the Canadian side, we continue to see good activity out west and in Ontario, and we will continue to monitor this also with our joint venture with GNR Capital in Quebec.
-
- We have seen that GNR is also looking at several projects that they've been coding on. And we expect also on that front that will benefit from this partnership and have some opportunities to come forward to fruition in 2022.
Kurt said: Nov. 11, 2021 - Big opportunity for us and we are in discussions on several projects in Alberta.
- Both Alberta and Quebec offer unique opportunities.
- Alberta has probably the lowest cost natural gas and a great carbon capture storage opportunities
- Quebec has the lowest cost renewable green electricity for electrolyzer applications.
- Our joint venture is with FTQ and GNR Quebec Capital is making good progress.
- We have I believe 28 projects under evaluation and we are the looking at 18 more closely.
- We have signed four LOIs for 4 projects where there's really close evaluation.
- I expect that we're going to see some announcements in 2022.
- Really interesting projects that are fantastic for Quebec.
