RE:RE:RE:Interfor to Sell Acorn Specialty Sawmill in British Columbia Yes, it's not much guesswork either. The BC Coast has been the od man out for years now -- it's a complex, high cost environment. It has no scale, plus is the concentration of the issues you mentioned.
They are not leaving the BC Interior as Adams Lake is world class (e.g. has a capacity 3x this Acorn outfit's nameplate but 7x its actual output) and Castlegar is getting more capital. They have things like better monetized by-products (co-gen power plants, regional pellet production take-away,,, as well as the standard chip revenue).
Page 8 of the pres below shows the 4 operating areas. They have steadily reduced the BC Coast to... Acorn. The logging show will be last to go but it has more value, unless they stay put to monetize it for carbon.
Well, they have 4 areas now -- 1 billion feet in Ontario/QC which is great news. They don't need the money (this might be a $20-$40M deal which is a rounding error) but it's important to remove the distraction and let mgmt focus on onward and upward in SPF/SYP, not spec. cedar.
