Feb 7, 2022 (Reuters) - Novavax Inc (NVAX.O) said on Monday U.S. government funding for its COVID-19 vaccine had been expanded to cover a late-stage study in adolescents with a booster component.

Novavax in July 2020 had received $1.6 billion in funding to develop its protein-based vaccine under a government program aimed at accelerating access to coronavirus vaccines and treatments, formerly called Operation Warp Speed.

At this point, I'm all for TLT continuing to pursue a comparable/better vaccine, but only as long as it continues to be fully government funded.  I'd rather see any limited company funds/private funding be targeted for ACT development & possibly advancing anti-viral treatment studies.

Protein-based vaccines may be the next big game-changers for Covid-19 prevention imo.  They are showing similar efficacy to that of mRNA-based vaccines & a big advantage over mRNA is that they can be stored in a standard vaccine fridge, which allows for easier storage, transport & delivery.  Such an advantage will help lower-income countries that are ill-equipped for cold storage handling.
