Rough Diam Prices (Fri, 29 Apr) - Mentioned by Will Purcell

Rough Diam Prices (Fri, 29 Apr) - Mentioned by Will Purcell

The flattening of the decline in rough diamond prices continued this week, according to Paul Zimnisky's global rough diamond price index, but prices have now decreased over nine consecutive weeks from a mid-February all-time high.

That high, nearly double where prices were at the start of 2008, was briefly approached in the summer of 2011, a rally that came on the heels of the Great Recession of the late 2000s.  That nearly two-year-long rally was essentially a match for the recent surge that followed the COVID-19-induced collapse in the early spring of 2020.  A decade of stagnant or slowly falling prices followed the earlier rally; the question is, will history repeat in the wake of the most recent surge.
