This is the response from the union itself to the members.
As planned, we had our two meetings with the employer on May 10 and 12, 2022. Our goal was to conclude these negotiations. Unfortunately, that is not exactly what happened. Instead, the employer chose to submit a comprehensive offer that we refuse to present to you since the wage increase, outsourcing and indexation to retirees' pensions are still in dispute.
We have therefore submitted a counter-proposal to the employer in order to arrive at a reasonable offer to present to you. We have set a deadline of May 23, 2022 for the employer to get back to us on our counter-offer.
Until then, your bargaining committee has chosen to hold a strike vote. This vote will take place on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Buffet Cristal, 5255 Henri Bourassa West, Arr. Saint-Laurent. This time slot has been specially chosen to give all of you the opportunity to exercise your right to vote, whether it is before or after your work shift. Please note that your bargaining committee will be on hand to answer your questions before you exercise your vote.
Holding a strike vote does not mean that a strike will be called automatically if a majority of you make that choice. It would, however, give your bargaining committee the power to apply pressure at the appropriate time if we reach an impasse when the employer comes back to us with our counter proposal.
We look forward to seeing you in large numbers on May 17. This vote will be another opportunity to discuss with you and, with a strong turnout, to send a clear message to the employer.
We will keep you informed of future developments.
