Choom Holdings Inc CHOOF

Choom Holdings Inc. is a Canada-based retail cannabis company, which is established as store networks in Canada. The Company’s Choom brand is inspired by Hawaii's Choom Gang, a group of buddies in Honolulu, who loved to smoke weed or, as the locals call it, Choom. The Choom Gang pursued a ‘live in the moment’ lifestyle and their energy has helped shape the Choom culture, which is rooted in the shared belief of cultivating time with friends. The Company is focused on delivering an elevated customer experience through its curated retail environments, offering a diversity of brands for Canadians across a national retail network. The Company operates through two segments: Retail Cannabis and Corporate Operations. The Company’s business strategy is to build retail cannabis chains, with locations across Canada in the provinces that allow for private retailers.

It's a Canadian cannabis conundrum: On the one hand, some cannabis stores in Alberta and Ontario have started shutting their doors in the face of intense competition.

On the other, market data firm Cannabis Benchmarks figures that Canada could theoretically support roughly 2,000 more marijuana retailers in addition to the 3,162 open at the end of April.

Only Alberta has more cannabis shops than it can handle, in Cannabis Benchmarks' reckoning.

MJBizDaily reporter Solomon Israel explores why parts of Canada have too many stores while other parts arguably have too few.

Here's a hint: Four of Canada's 10 provinces have government-operated cannabis retail monopolies.

Wherever Canada’s cannabis store counts go from here, a Canadian business professor who tracks the industry expects the nation’s marijuana retail market expansion will be just about complete by the end of 2022.

When the market matures, according to Solomon, it could serve as a blueprint for other wealthy nations looking to legalize marijuana at the federal level.
