RE:RE:A useful Global Perspective on energy and emissions Interesting point when one considers efficieny at the vehicle level , but what happens when one compares overall efficiencies from the starting point of the energy creation to its ultimate usage ?
For EV's we need consider the efficiency of whatever process that created the electricity and the storage and transmission losses in the electrical grid. For ICE vehicles most of us inderstand those costs from drilling to combustion.
It is important to realize that most of the incremental demand for electricity will not come from new hydro nor nuclear power. Incremental solar and wind with its attendant need for storage and updating of electrical grids may very well take longer than the introduction of EV s Furthermore not everyone in the world is as lucky as we are to have surplus real estate close to large population regions.
Well EIJ is right , this subject is complex and way outside my ken. Nevertheless ,the subject is extremely important and I am sad to say that it seems to be me more a political issue than a scientific issue.
If there are rigorous studies available online , that would make fascinating reading IMO !!
