Bio. In reality a strong scientific basis for islet concentration as a variable predates Shapiro. It has long been known that islets are dispersed throughout the pancreas with higher concentrations in the head of the pancreas. This would only make sense if islet function is variable. In essence, the higher concentration of islets might respond faster to sugar highs but signal each other to shutdown more quickly with more dispersed islets being responsible for more continuous maintenance.
